“My winning photo means to me that people are able to cooperate and make a difference,” says Rudolf, who took it during an urban bicycle event in Budapest in September 2008, as part of the worldwide Critical Mass movement. Rudolf climbed to the top of a very tall statue in order to get the shot.

Marielle took this photo in March 2010, on behalf of the Dutch aid organization Cordaid. The children in the photos live near an orphanage there. “These children were so happy to finally get some clean water,” Marielle says. “They sometimes do competitions to see who can be the first one to fill the bucket with water.”
