The next step: Turning evidence into action

Focusing on the pragmatic steps that can be taken in the next five years to meet the MDGs, UNDP developed the MDG Acceleration Framework.

A fresh approach to tackling off-track MDGs at the country level, the framework was developed drawing on the past decade's evidence base UNDP has constructed.

What is the MDG Acceleration Framework?

The framework provides a systematic way for countries to develop their own action plan based on existing plans and processes to pursue their MDG priorities.

It also helps governments to focus on disparities and inequalities, two of the major causes of uneven progress, by particularly responding to the needs of the vulnerable.

Earlier this year, 10 countries (Belize, Colombia, Ghana, Jordan, Lao PDR, Papua New Guinea, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda) began to pilot the MDG Acceleration Framework with the support of UNDP and the broader UN system. The pilot experience has shown that when governments take the lead and have effective assistance from all partners, progress is possible.
