UNDP-GEF supports countries meet the requirements of the international conventions through projects designed to generate competence in and improve the effectiveness of the institutions that work with the conventions and implement GEF projects, as well as to promote a better-functioning political, economic, and social system (enabling environment).

In 2011, 15 projects with GEF funding and the support of UNDP are under implementation. These projects have received US$ 6.9 million in GEF grant financing and US$ 7.5 million in country investments (co-financing).
