The Ecosystems and Biodiversity (EBD) Team works with partner countries and UNDP Country Offices to design projects addressing the following three UNDP-GEF Signature Programmes (SP): SP1 – Biodiversity and ecosystem management mainstreaming:  integrating biodiversity and ecosystem management into development planning and production sector activities; SP2 – Protected Areas:  unlocking the potential of protected areas by ensuring that they are properly managed, sustainably financed, and contributing to sustainable development; and, SP3 – Ecosystem based adaptation and mitigation: managing and rehabilitating ecosystems for adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.

In 2012, 97 countries are implementing 139 projects with GEF funding and the support of UNDP.  These projects have received US$ 479 million in GEF grant financing and US$ 1,365 million in country investments (co-financing).
