Joint Statement by EU Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark

On 8 May 2012, UNDP Administrator Helen Clarke met with EU Commissioner Andris Piebalgs to review the UNDP-EU Strategic Partnership and to look at the way forward. In a joint statement after the meeting, they reaffirmed their wish to develop the EU-UNDP cooperation in areas of common interest, and to continue working together towards the objective of establishing solid foundations for peace, development and recovery from the economic crisis and to promote the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development. The Millenium Film Festival

 The Millenium International Documentary Film Festival takes place in Brussels from 17 April until 5 May. This year’s edition focused on youth and the global challenges they face. In addition to more than 50 film screenings, conferences and discussions were organised to debate the future of the Millennium Development Goals after 2015. Read

AGORA, the Portal for Parliamentary Development presents new features

A number of new features will boost the interconnectivity of the AGORA portal, improving its function as a knowledge hub for the strengthening of parliaments and democracies. The new tools include Atlas - a detailed parliamentary mapping tool - an interactive multimedia field, gathering a wide range of videos by parliamentarians, and a new expert roster. Read.

Summary Report - Workshop on ‘Elections, Violence and Conflict Prevention’.

The workshop held by the EC-UNDP Joint Task Force on Electoral Assistance focused on the links between elections and violence, the forms and impact of violence throughout the electoral cycle, and preventive measures that can be taken. It was an important event and a unique occasion to exchange opinions and experiences on the important issue of elections and conflict prevention. Millenium International Documentary Film Festival

The third edition of the “Millenium International Documentary Film Festival (MFF)”, which closed on Tuesday 14 June, was a roaring success. During the 6-day event hundreds of people crowded the Vendôme, Civa and Flagey cinemas to see more than 50 inspiring MDGs-related documentary films and to meet dozens of film makers from all around the world sharing their different views and cultures. Through fascinating stories the Millennium Film Festival tackled in a compelling way very up-to-date issues like development, globalizations, MDGs and poverty reduction as well as environment and gender equality.
