Who We Are
The United Nations Development Programme started its work in the DPRK in 1979. Our organization helped facilitate the international response to famine in the 1990s, and served to provide exposure for local officials and citizens to international norms and standards.
Over the years, our programme interventions and advocacy have had an impact. For instance, we introduced the MDGs into the national planning system. Today UNDP looks towards providing assistance in agriculture, rural energy, environmental management, socio-economic development and other areas that will benefit people.
Current projects include laying the groundwork to reduce post-harvest losses and improve seed production and enhancing the information available for agriculture management in order to improve food security; and supporting demonstration projects on rural energy efficiency and conservation, wind and other renewable energy alternatives. All our programmes support the national goal of improving the quality of life of the people.
